English Tenses
In English grammar, tense refers to the form of the verb that indicates the time of an action or event. Tenses in English are typically categorized as present, past, and future, although there are also variations and combinations of these basic tenses.
The present tense is used to describe an action or event that is happening now or that is always true, such as:
I walk to work every day.
The past tense is used to describe an action or event that happened in the past, such as
I walked to work yesterday.
The future tense is used to describe an action or event that will happen in the future, such as
I will walk to work tomorrow.
There are also variations of these tenses, such as the present perfect tense (e.g., I have walked to work), the past perfect tense (e.g., I had walked to work), and the future perfect tense (e.g., I will have walked to work). These variations are used to indicate actions or events that occurred before a certain time or that will have occurred by a certain time.
Understanding tense is important for communicating clearly in English, as it allows speakers and writers to indicate when an action or event occurred or will occur in relation to the present moment.
